Mishkeegogamang Ojibwe Reserve
Continent on Funding of approximately $80,000, Overcomers will build a Ministry Center on the
Mishkeegogamang Ojibwe Reserve
in Northern Ontario. The project will be used for counseling, crisis intervention, training and discipleship, and for housing visiting ministry teams. This community of
800 has a high rate of alcohol abuse specifically among the youth and young adults. In recent years however the leaders of the Band made considerable progress addressing the needs of their community. The Chief and Council have pledged support for this project by providing a
site location, site preparation, and water and sewer
hook-up.
Architectural drawings were completed and preliminary bids are in place from Ontario vendors.
Funding was not available to start the building project as planned and to date Overcomers have networked three churches to provide people skilled in the building trade to help once the funds are raised. In order to keep the interest and momentum moving for the volunteers an alternative project was launched. Two of the church groups did travel to the Reserve to help renovate an older small building used by Overcomers teams and worked on a church in the village. During this outreach the church teams also sponsored Vacation Bible Schools for the kids of the Reserve.
