Gordon Thayer Recognized with 2006 Award from FBI
In 1992, Gordon Thayer co-founded and became Director of the American Indian Community Development Corporation (AICDC) effective in providing housing for homeless Native Americans. In recognition, FBI Director Robert Mueller III awarded the 2006 FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award to Thayer. The Award is reserved for those “that have made an outstanding contribution within the community towards crime prevention and community awareness.”
Furthermore, Gordon was given the Award “for his strong participatory involvement and dedication to addressing issues of homelessness that result from chronic alcoholism and for his compassionate assistance to those addicted to alcohol in the Twin Cities’ Native American community.”
Gordon Thayer Represents Native American Christian Ministries Among 10,000 Evangelists in Amsterdam
In the summer of 2000, Gordon spoke before a crowd of about 10,000 evangelists from 190 countries to represent Christian work performed among Native Americans. The event, “Amsterdam 2000″, was organized by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and focused on providing encouragement, networking, and training opportunities to the participants.
Sheila Thayer Receives Counseling License
Sheila Thayer received her credentials as a licensed chemical dependency counselor in 2008. Prior to that she had already been serving as the Director of the First Nations Recovery Center. As Director, Sheila has been involved with building the organization’s capacity for ministry and the treatment program, marketing, working with volunteers, discipling new believers, and other ministry initiatives.
